A Renewed Chapter in UK–Uganda Relations

Speaking at the 15th UK–Africa Business, Trade & Investment Summit, H.E. Nimisha Madhvani, Uganda’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Ambassador to Ireland, delivered a warm and forward-looking message celebrating the deepening ties between Uganda, the UK, and the Ugandan diaspora.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Uganda, I extend our deepest appreciation to Mr. Willy Mutenza, whose energy, dedication, and vision have made this Summit a vital bridge between Uganda, the United Kingdom, and our community abroad.”

She emphasised that the Summit serves as a cornerstone for Uganda’s diplomatic and economic engagement, connecting government, business leaders, and the diaspora in pursuit of shared prosperity.

The Diaspora: Partners in Uganda’s Transformation

The Ugandan diaspora in the UK — now over 200,000 strong — has become a critical driver of trade, investment, and knowledge exchange.

“Many have built successful lives here, and it is now time for them to reconnect, invest, and return home to share in Uganda’s transformation story.”

The Uganda High Commission in London has streamlined key services to facilitate diaspora participation, including:

  • Dual citizenship registration
  • National ID card issuance
  • Business and investment facilitation support

These developments enable Ugandans abroad to reconnect seamlessly with their homeland and contribute to national development.

Direct Air Connectivity: A New Era for Tourism and Trade

A historic milestone in UK–Uganda relations has been the launch of Uganda Airlines’ direct flights between London Gatwick and Entebbe.

“It is a fast, efficient, and dignified link between our two nations,” H.E. Madhvani said.

The new route symbolises Uganda’s readiness to welcome more visitors, boost exports, and strengthen bilateral ties in tourism, logistics, and investment.

A Landmark Investment Treaty

One of the year’s most significant achievements is the signing of a Pro-Growth Investment Treaty between the United Kingdom and Uganda — championed by Lord Collins, UK Minister for Africa, and H.E. Lisa Chesney, UK High Commissioner to Uganda.

This modern, transparent framework enhances investor protection and paves the way for expanded trade and industrial cooperation.

Tourism and National Pride

“Visit our magnificent Rwenzori Mountains, the source of the River Nile, and our mountain gorillas — among the rarest and most majestic creatures on Earth.”

H.E. Madhvani invited participants to experience Uganda’s natural beauty and warm hospitality firsthand. She highlighted that Uganda’s tourism offering extends beyond wildlife: it represents peace, safety, and opportunity under the leadership of H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Honouring Visionary Leadership

“If I had a medal at the Uganda High Commission, I would give it to him. Ministers, please recommend President Museveni to bestow upon this gentleman a Ugandan honour — he truly deserves it.”

Concluding with a heartfelt gesture, H.E. Madhvani praised Mr. Willy Mutenza, Founder of the UK–Africa Business, Trade & Investment Summit, for his enduring commitment to the UK–Uganda partnership.

Key Message

Uganda stands as a safe, dynamic, and welcoming destination for investment, trade, and tourism. Through renewed air connectivity, a pro-growth investment treaty, and strong diaspora engagement, Uganda is building a brighter, more inclusive partnership with the United Kingdom.
