Beyond the Bean: Uganda’s Instant Coffee and Coffee Tourism Opportunities at UKAIS 2026
Uganda’s coffee revolution is moving from green bean to branded product and from processing facility to destination experience. UKAIS 2026 brings both opportunities, instant coffee value addition and the emerging coffee tourism platform, into structured engagement with UK and Indian capital, anchored by Inspire Africa Group.
Uganda is now Africa’s largest coffee exporter, earning $2.5 billion in the year to February 2026, up from $1.6 billion in the prior period. Production for 2025/26 is forecast at 6.88 million 60-kilogram bags, with Robusta at 85% and Arabica at 15%. The structural question for investors is no longer whether Uganda can grow coffee at scale. It is how much of that value the country captures in-country, and how international buyers build longer partnerships across product, processing, and place.
Two investment platforms now sit on top of that production base.
Platform 1: Instant Coffee. The UK instant coffee market is valued at over £1.4 billion annually, with the category present in 80% of households. The branded coffee shop market sits at £6.1 billion across more than 11,400 outlets. For Uganda, the structural gap is sharp. Virtually all coffee exports remain in raw green-bean form, with limited domestic processing. The Uganda Investment Authority’s flagship soluble coffee opportunity at UKAIS 2026 is a $48.1M Soluble Coffee Processing Factory at Kampala Industrial Park, Mukono. Robusta and Arabica run year-round. Retail margin moves from $1.87/kg green to $15/kg branded, captured locally rather than offshore.
The Inspire Africa Anchor. Inspire Africa Group is already executing this thesis. Uganda’s only coffee-specific industrial park, located at Rwashamaire in Ntungamo, runs at 10,000 MT annual processing capacity. The group’s portfolio spans Haraka Instant Coffee, Inspire Africa Coffee, Africa Coffee Fest, Inspire Café, Ela Beauty, and Coffee City. President Museveni flagged off first exports in October 2025. The product launch on International Coffee Day, 1 October 2025, was presided over by Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo and attended by cabinet ministers. The story is live, the products are in market, and the institutional credibility is national.
UK Launch Aligned to Summit Week. Inspire Africa Group’s UK launch programme runs through UKAIS 2026 corridor week. A House of Commons Pre-Launch Dinner is scheduled for Wednesday 10 September 2026, in partnership with the UK–Africa Business Summit and SACCI, with CEOs of UK agri-business and coffee import companies as the audience. Inspire Africa Group then sits as a featured partner across UKAIS 2026 on 11 September. A two-month national out-of-home campaign across London buses and train carriage panels runs from late July to 10 September, dual-targeting consumer awareness and importer outreach through inspireafricagroup.com.
Platform 2: Coffee Tourism. Coffee tourism is a proven international category. Costa Rica, Colombia, Jamaica, and Hawaii have all built commercially viable platforms around story, landscape, tasting, education, and retail conversion. Uganda is positioned to do the same. The Africa Coffee Park in Rwashamaire, Ntungamo sits directly on Uganda’s western safari circuit, anchored by gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, rated the 3rd Best Adventure Destination in the World at the 2025 TOURISE Global Tourism Awards, and wildlife safaris in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Gorilla permits cost US$800 per person, placing the gorilla-circuit traveller among the highest-spending tourists in East Africa.
The Park is already developing well beyond a processing facility, with a coffee resort, demonstration rooms, convention centre, sports complex, Coffee Academy, the Lake Nyabihoko Coffee Beach Resort, and future airstrip connectivity. Inspire Africa Group’s CEO has publicly stated a target of US$1 billion from coffee tourism as part of the Africa Renaissance Mission, with the ambition of attracting at least 1,000 American coffee tourists annually. Two event anchors give the year structure: the Africa Coffee Festival in October, positioned around Ugandan Independence, and the Coffee Marathon in May, anchored to women farmers and community impact.
The Investor Lens. For UK and Indian capital, the proposition is clear. Instant coffee anchors a value-addition play tied to a UK consumer market worth over £1.4 billion, with private label and B2B ingredient supply offering the fastest commercial routes. Coffee tourism builds on Uganda’s 704,000 annual international visitor base and one of East Africa’s most commercially active safari corridors. Both opportunities sit inside Uganda’s wider Tenfold Growth Strategy targeting GDP expansion from $50 billion to $500 billion by 2040. The UK Developing Countries Trading Scheme provides preferential market access, and the UK Trade Partnerships Programme is already supporting Ugandan coffee export competitiveness.
The Summit Connection. The UKAIS 2026 plenary on Agribusiness, Food Systems and Value Addition brings these threads together. Uganda’s Strategic Growth Partner session, led by H.E. Lisa Chesney MBE, British High Commissioner to Uganda, places coffee within the wider ATMS framework. The Investment Showcase puts project sponsors directly in front of UK and Indian capital. Inspire Africa Group, alongside Uganda Investment Authority and the broader bankable projects pipeline, gives investors a live case study of Uganda’s coffee transformation in motion.
