Derrick Mutegyeki Explores Uganda’s Housing Sector at UK-Africa Summit 🌍🏘️
London, September 15, 2024 — At the UK-Africa Trade Summit, Derrick Mutegyeki, Deputy CEO of Finance and Administration at Uganda’s National Housing and Construction Company (NHCC), presented an engaging vision for UK-Uganda collaboration in addressing Uganda’s housing challenges. Mutegyeki called on UK investors to partner with NHCC to tackle Uganda’s significant housing deficit through sustainable, affordable, and integrated infrastructure projects, highlighting the sector's untapped potential for both financial returns and social impact.
Uganda’s Rapid Urbanization and Housing Deficit
Uganda is undergoing rapid urbanization, creating an urgent demand for housing solutions, particularly for low- and middle-income populations. Mutegyeki emphasized that Uganda’s housing sector is ripe for investment, with a significant shortfall that presents opportunities for affordable housing projects. The growing demand, coupled with Uganda’s increasing population, creates a substantial market for UK businesses to engage in profitable ventures that also address the country's social needs.
Key Areas for Collaboration
Mutegyeki outlined three core areas where UK investors can collaborate with NHCC to meet Uganda’s housing needs:
Strategic Partnerships and Knowledge Transfer
Mutegyeki emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships between NHCC and UK businesses. He announced that NHCC is working closely with the UK Chambers of Commerce to facilitate investment and collaboration. Future investment forums will showcase the vast potential in Uganda’s real estate sector, particularly in rapidly urbanizing areas such as Kampala.
“Uganda is at a critical juncture in its urbanization journey,” Mutegyeki said. “With UK investment and expertise, we can create sustainable housing solutions that not only address our current housing deficit but also prepare us for the future growth of our cities.”
He also stressed the value of knowledge transfer, calling on UK companies to share their expertise in urban planning, construction management, and sustainable development. These partnerships, he noted, will help both countries benefit from shared resources and knowledge.
Conclusion: Building Resilient Communities Together
As Uganda continues its urbanization journey, the country’s strategy revolves around building resilient and sustainable communities. Mutegyeki called on UK investors to seize the opportunity to contribute to Uganda’s housing sector, emphasizing that collaborations with NHCC will lead to mutually beneficial outcomes for both nations.
