Dr Sudhir Ruparelia was among the distinguished Ugandan business delegation that attended the 15th UK–Africa Business, Trade & Investment Summit in London. The delegation included senior executives from Absa Bank Uganda, PostBank Uganda, and the Uganda Private Sector Foundation. They participated in sessions focused on finance, infrastructure, and diaspora investment mobilisation.

Dr Ruparelia’s participation demonstrated the strength and dynamism of Uganda’s private sector and the increasing influence of African business leaders in shaping trade and investment policy. A member of the Ugandan Indian diaspora who returned from London to build one of East Africa’s largest business groups, Dr Ruparelia represents the principle of reinvestment through enterprise and partnership. Although he did not address the Summit, his presence was widely noted and greatly respected.

The Summit brought together distinguished leaders from across Africa, the Commonwealth, and the UK, including HH Pujya Shri Sant Trilochan Das Maharaj Ji, Prof. Luis Franceschi – Assistant Secretary General, The Commonwealth, Lord Dolar Popat – Businessman and Conservative Life Peer, House of Lords, UK, and Lt Gen Peter Pearson CB CBE – Former NATO Deputy Commander and Former Commandant of Sandhurst.

Business leaders from across the continent also took part, including Dr Kalpesh Patel, Chief Executive Officer of Steelmakers Limited — one of East Africa’s largest vertically integrated steel producers. Employing thousands across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, Steelmakers Limited plays a vital role in the region’s infrastructure and industrial development, supplying steel for construction, manufacturing, and major projects across the EAC.

📦 Lord Popat, former UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Uganda, Rwanda, and the DRC: “Business leaders like Dr Sudhir Ruparelia are proof of Uganda’s entrepreneurial edge. His journey from London back to Kampala to build a billion-dollar enterprise exemplifies the transformative power of diaspora capital. This is not only a story of success — it is a statement of trust, resilience, and reinvestment.”

Dr Ruparelia’s presence at the Summit brought credibility and visibility to the Ugandan delegation. Through a series of private meetings and informal discussions with policymakers, investors, and UK-based business leaders, he helped advance dialogue on strengthening bilateral trade, financial collaboration, and investment confidence in Uganda. His engagements elevated the country’s private sector profile and reinforced his reputation as one of Uganda’s foremost business ambassadors.

📦 Subhash V. Thakrar, OBE, Past Chair, London Chamber of Commerce: “Dr Sudhir Ruparelia is a clear example that Africa can succeed with its own resources, leadership, and resilience. His story proves that structured strategy, not foreign capital, is often the key to building lasting value.”

Dr Ruparelia’s quiet diplomacy throughout the Summit highlighted the importance of collaboration between the private and public sectors, as well as the need for robust investor protection mechanisms such as Uganda’s State House Investors Protection Unit (SHIPU). His participation reflected deep confidence in Uganda’s economic outlook and its growing partnerships with the international business community.

📦 Willy Mutenza, Summit Chairman: “Dr Sudhir Ruparelia’s participation and continued support for the UK–Africa Business Summit — which began with a focus on Uganda and has since grown to represent the wider African continent — exemplify the strength of private capital. In alignment with H.E. President Museveni’s vision for Pan-Africanism and regional integration, the Summit now addresses trade and investment opportunities across blocs including the EAC, ECOWAS, SADC, and COMESA — offering investors access to wider regional markets.”

The Summit gratefully acknowledges the generous support of Dr Sudhir Ruparelia, which contributed to the successful hosting of the event at one of London’s most prestigious venues, The Royal Horseguards Hotel & One Whitehall Place. His commitment and partnership helped the Summit achieve its goal of advancing meaningful UK–Africa business engagement and fostering sustainable investment collaboration.
