Hon. Dr. Robert Mwesigwa Rukaari Highlights Investment Opportunities in Agriculture and ICT at UK-Africa Trade Summit

Hon. Dr. Robert Mwesigwa Rukaari highlighted investment opportunities in Uganda’s agriculture and ICT sectors at the UK-Africa Trade Summit. He emphasized government incentives for value-added projects like coffee processing and called for partnerships in business process outsourcing (BPO).

Founder and chairman of the UK-Africa Business Summit, Willy Mutenza, delivered a keynote address that set the tone for the event. He called for deeper economic collaboration between the UK and Africa, emphasizing that the continent, especially East Africa, is emerging as a key destination for global investment. “Africa is open for business,” declared Mutenza, urging global investors to take advantage of the continent’s expanding markets and rising potential.

With over 25 years of experience advocating for African investment, Mutenza highlighted the power of networking in building meaningful business relationships. He encouraged participants to engage with government ministers, ambassadors, and top business executives attending the summit, noting that private meeting rooms were available for one-on-one discussions to facilitate impactful dialogues.

Success Stories and Uganda’s Rising Investment Profile

During his speech, Mutenza pointed to Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, a prominent East African billionaire, as a shining example of the potential returns on strategic investments in the region. Ruparelia’s success is emblematic of the vast opportunities awaiting investors in East Africa.

Mutenza further underscored Uganda’s growing appeal as a top investment destination, offering favorable business conditions and a burgeoning market. As a personal commitment to driving economic development in Uganda, Mutenza pledged his pro bono services to investors exploring opportunities in the country, demonstrating his unwavering dedication to fostering growth.

Expanding the Summit’s Scope: Strengthening UK-East Africa Partnerships

Initially centered on Uganda, the UK-Africa Business Summit has grown into a platform for promoting economic cooperation between the UK and the entire East African region. This year’s discussions emphasized sustainable development and the vision of positioning East Africa as a unified market, attracting global investors. Mutenza commended Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni for his role in advancing regional cooperation and acknowledged the UK’s contributions, including financial assistance, skills transfer, and infrastructure investments, in supporting East Africa’s development.

Key Partnerships and Sponsors

The summit attracted participation from major stakeholders from both the UK and Africa. Mutenza expressed his gratitude to key sponsors, including Euro Exim Bank Ltd, Universal Properties, Equity Bank, and the National Housing and Construction Company (NHCC), for their contributions. He also thanked key institutions like the Department for Business and Trade, the British High Commission, and the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) for their vital support.

A special mention was made of Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia for his ongoing efforts in promoting East African investment opportunities, further reinforcing the region’s vast investment potential.

Investment Opportunities and Public-Private Partnerships

The summit’s focus on "Accelerating Growth: UK & East Africa Partnerships for Global Expansion" resonated throughout the discussions. Topics such as infrastructure development, skills training, and financial innovation were key to breaking down barriers and viewing Africa as a vibrant, interconnected market. Public-private partnerships (PPPs) were highlighted as a critical driver for sustainable growth, especially in sectors like energy, transport, ICT, and education, where innovation and investment are essential for unlocking Africa’s economic potential.

A Call to Action for Future Investment

As the summit concluded, Mutenza called on attendees to seize the moment by connecting directly with African leaders and exploring the wealth of opportunities across the continent. He emphasized that the summit is not just an event but a platform for creating lasting business relationships that will drive Africa’s economic future. Encouraging participants to network actively and step beyond their comfort zones, Mutenza highlighted East Africa’s strategic position as a hub for global trade and investment.
