From Peace to Progress: Uganda Champions Integrity and Innovation at the 15th UK–Africa Summit

The 15th UK–Africa Business, Trade & Investment Summit concluded with a powerful message of peace, partnership, and progress. From macroeconomic discipline to renewable energy and investor protection, Uganda’s leaders reaffirmed that stability and integrity are the true foundations of sustainable growth.

The Spirit of Purpose, Partnership, and Progress

The closing session of the 15th UK–Africa Business, Trade & Investment Summit captured the event’s defining themes of purpose, partnership, and progress, concluding two days of strategic dialogue that reaffirmed Africa’s emergence as a global growth frontier.

Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba – Stability, Integrity, and Investor Confidence

Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba, Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda, opened the session with a powerful reflection on the link between economic integrity and sustainable growth. He reminded delegates that peace and predictable policy remain the cornerstones of investor confidence.

“Peace, stability, and sound fundamentals form the foundation for attracting and sustaining foreign direct investment.” — Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba

He emphasised Uganda’s fully liberalised capital and financial accounts, guaranteeing investors complete freedom of capital movement — a hallmark of transparency and openness.

Prof. Nuwagaba urged deeper UK–Africa partnerships built on evidence-based policymaking, long-term confidence, and shared prosperity.

Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu – Clean Energy as the Power of Progress

Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu, Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, delivered a decisive call to action: to anchor investment strategies in clean, affordable energy.

With 94% renewable generation capacity and industrial tariffs fixed at five US cents per kWh, Uganda stands among Africa’s most cost-competitive and sustainable power markets.

“Electricity is the lifeblood of development. Uganda’s vision is to power industrialisation, innovation, and inclusive growth with sustainable, affordable, and reliable clean energy.” — Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa

She invited global partners to invest in renewables, transmission, and regional connectivity, ensuring energy drives industrialisation and job creation.

Col. Edith Nakalema – Protecting Investors through Integrity

Col. Edith Nakalema, Head of the State House Investors Protection Unit, reaffirmed Uganda’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and investor confidence.

She highlighted Uganda’s coordinated institutional framework, linking ministries, regulators, and security agencies to ensure investors are treated fairly and disputes resolved efficiently.

“Investor protection is not just policy — it’s practice. Uganda guarantees confidence through governance that listens and acts.” — Col. Edith Nakalema

H.E. Nimisha Madhvani – Honouring Visionary Leadership

In an emotional finale, H.E. Nimisha Madhvani, Uganda’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, paid tribute to Mr. Willy Mutenza, Founder and Chairman of the Summit.

Her heartfelt words celebrated his vision, dedication, and leadership in building bridges between the UK and Africa.

“If I had a medal at the Uganda High Commission to give you, I would. Please recommend President Museveni to give this gentleman a medal — a Ugandan honour. He really deserves it.” — H.E. Nimisha Madhvani

Her tribute echoed the appreciation of delegates, officials, and business leaders who have witnessed Mr. Mutenza’s pivotal role in shaping UK–Africa economic diplomacy.

Key Takeaway

The Summit concluded on a note of optimism and shared responsibility, reaffirming Uganda’s position as a gateway for sustainable investment, renewable innovation, and macroeconomic resilience.
