At the upcoming UK-Africa Business Summit, Nelson Tugume—Founder & CEO of Inspire Africa Group (IAG)—will spotlight a bold new strategy to reshape Africa’s role in the global coffee industry. As Uganda stands as Africa’s top coffee exporter, Tugume’s message is clear: the future of African coffee lies not in raw exports, but in finished, traceable, and ethically made products created in Africa, for global markets.
Tugume’s journey from rural entrepreneur to industrial innovator represents a powerful case for value addition at origin. Through IAG, he is building a globally competitive pipeline for instant and specialty coffee products—such as Haraka and Inspire Coffee—that use cutting-edge processing like freeze-drying to deliver premium quality from Uganda direct to the world.
This positions Uganda to compete in the $150 billion instant coffee market, not as a raw supplier but as a brand owner.
IAG’s growth strategy is anchored on a trilateral trade corridor:
Together, these regions can build a robust and ethical coffee supply chain—from farm to shelf.
IAG is actively seeking UK and international partners for joint investment in infrastructure, technology, and market expansion. Key among these is the upcoming Coffee Park in Uganda—designed to support both freeze-dried and spray-dried instant coffee production at scale.
Additional investment opportunities include:
Tugume’s strategy also includes tapping into the UK’s coffee-savvy diaspora communities—specifically Turkish and Ethiopian populations with deep cultural ties to coffee:
These communities serve as early adopters and brand ambassadors for new origin-marked products.
High-level attendees at the summit will include H.E. Mr Osman Koray Ertaş, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye, and H.E. Mr Biruk Mekonnen Demissie, Ethiopian Ambassador to the UK. Their presence signals growing diplomatic and trade interest in coffee as a cultural and economic bridge.
For Tugume and Inspire Africa Group, every cup of coffee is a step toward economic justice—driving better incomes for farmers, creating jobs, and keeping more value in Uganda.

Senior Presidential Advisor at State House

Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu is a senior Ugandan political leader, former Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, and private-sector businesswoman with extensive experience across energy policy, mineral development, public leadership and investment-facing reform. As Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, she played a central role in shaping Uganda’s energy and minerals agenda during one of the country’s most important transition periods. Her tenure covered major reforms and milestones across electricity generation, transmission, petroleum development, mineral governance, state participation in mining, value addition and energy transition planning. Hon. Nankabirwa led Uganda’s engagement around the Energy Transition Plan, launched at COP28, which set out a long-term pathway for universal modern energy access, energy-sector modernisation, industrial growth, emissions management and regional energy positioning. She also oversaw major infrastructure and policy priorities, including the commissioning of the 600 MW Karuma Hydropower Project, expansion of national generation capacity, power distribution reforms, petroleum infrastructure development and preparations for Uganda’s entry into commercial oil production. In the minerals sector, she was closely associated with Uganda’s shift toward stronger state participation, structured investor engagement and domestic value addition. Under the Mining and Minerals Act 2022 framework, Uganda moved to establish a state-owned mining company to manage the government’s commercial interests and 15 percent participation in large and medium-scale mining projects. This approach was designed to strengthen Uganda’s ability to retain more value from its mineral wealth while working with credible private-sector partners. At UKAIS 2026, Hon. Nankabirwa brings a rare combination of ministerial experience, sector knowledge and private-sector insight. Her contribution to the mining and energy session will help UK investors understand Uganda’s energy and minerals journey from inside government, including the policy choices, infrastructure demands, investment opportunities and implementation challenges that define the sector. Her perspective will be especially valuable in discussions on mineral beneficiation, energy infrastructure, public-private partnerships, domestic processing, investor confidence, petroleum development, power supply for industry and Uganda’s wider ambition to move from resource access to bankable industrial value.
