Rwanda’s Joseph Kabakeza Showcases Investment Opportunities and Regional Integration at UK-Africa Summit

The UK-Africa Trade Summit concluded with a strong focus on East Africa’s role in Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. Saudi Commercial Attaché Abdullah Almasoud discussed key investments in tourism, renewable energy, and services that will fuel regional development.

London, September 15, 2024 — Joseph Kabakeza, Trade and Investment representative at the Rwandan High Commission in London, took the stage at the UK-Africa Trade Summit to highlight Rwanda’s rapid economic growth and business-friendly environment. He emphasized the country’s reputation as one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies, its zero tolerance for corruption, and its commitment to creating a safe, transparent, and efficient environment for business.

Streamlined Business Environment and IT Leadership

Kabakeza showcased Rwanda’s streamlined business registration process, which allows businesses to register within six hours through the Rwanda Development Board. “Rwanda is a regional platform for IT and an IT-ready state,” Kabakeza noted, underscoring the country's ambition to become a leading hub for technology and business in the region.

Key Sectors for Investment

He outlined several sectors ripe for investment, including:

  • Light manufacturing
  • Mining
  • Agriculture
  • ICT
  • Finance
  • Tourism
  • Housing
  • Infrastructure development

“There are plenty of opportunities for investment, and I’m happy to discuss the details with anyone interested,” Kabakeza said, inviting attendees to explore the diverse investment avenues available in Rwanda.

Strengthening Regional Integration

Kabakeza also highlighted Rwanda’s growing role in regional economic integration, praising the leadership of Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni in strengthening ties through regional blocs like the East African Community (EAC) and COMESA. These initiatives have created new market opportunities across East Africa, making Rwanda an even more attractive business destination.

Strategic Connectivity

Rwanda’s strategic connectivity was another key point in Kabakeza’s presentation. He proudly mentioned the direct flights from London to Kigali via RwandAir, encouraging attendees to visit Rwanda and experience its potential firsthand. In a lighthearted moment, he added, “As we wait for Uganda Airlines to start, don’t hesitate to use RwandAir. We fly every day.”

A Transparent, Stable Environment for Investors

Kabakeza emphasized Rwanda’s commitment to regional cooperation and its stable, transparent environment for investors. With its ease of doing business, vibrant sectors, and strong commitment to regional integration, Rwanda is well-positioned to welcome global investors seeking growth opportunities in East Africa.
