Sid Jiwnani Discusses Digitalization and Transparency in Foreign Direct Investment at UK-Africa Summit 🌍💼
London, September 15, 2024 — During the 14th UK-Africa Trade Summit, Sid Jiwnani, Director of Knovos and expert in e-Discovery, addressed the transformative role digital platforms can play in enhancing transparency and efficiency in foreign direct investment (FDI) processes across East Africa. His insights focused on how secure, technology-driven solutions can streamline interactions between foreign investors and government agencies, fostering greater trust and accountability.
Digital Solutions for FDI Processes
Jiwnani highlighted how Knovos develops secure digital portals designed to replace outdated, inefficient methods like email and in-person meetings. These platforms, tailored to the unique needs of investors and government bodies, simplify the investment process by offering transparency and ease of use. "Transparency is a global priority, but it can sometimes be hindered by regulatory complexities. Digital tools can overcome these barriers by providing a smoother, more accountable investment environment," Jiwnani explained.
He pointed out that while regulatory frameworks may create hurdles in some cases, adopting digital solutions offers a way to mitigate these challenges, especially in markets like Uganda, where investor confidence is essential for growth.
Collaboration with Government Agencies
During the discussion, Matthew Otter, a fellow panelist, suggested a potential collaboration between Knovos and Uganda's Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA). The integration of digital solutions into Uganda’s procurement processes could create a more transparent and efficient system, making it easier for foreign investors to navigate the regulatory landscape.
"Government agencies like the PPDA are critical in ensuring transparency and efficiency in procurement. By integrating digital platforms, we can offer investors a more seamless experience, reducing risks and delays," Otter noted, emphasizing the importance of technology in modernizing these processes.
A Path to Modernization
The summit discussion underscored the broader theme of modernizing African markets to attract greater foreign direct investment. Jiwnani’s remarks reflected a clear path toward achieving this goal through digital transformation. Secure digital platforms can streamline interactions, enhance transparency, and create a more favorable investment climate—an essential step for East African nations looking to increase their share of global investment.
"East Africa’s embrace of digital tools can position the region as a leader in FDI attraction," Jiwnani concluded. As global business practices continue to evolve through digitalization, East Africa’s focus on transparency and technological integration could unlock new levels of investment, driving economic growth across the region.
