Dr. Gerald Banaga-Baingi is the Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda National Mining Company (UNMC), the Government of Uganda's commercial enterprise established to manage the State's strategic interests across the country's mineral value chain. He is responsible for leading the Company's mandate to develop commercially viable mining ventures, promote mineral beneficiation, and position Uganda as a competitive destination for responsible mineral investment. With extensive experience in geology, mineral resource management, mining policy and strategic project development, Dr. Banaga-Baingi has played a key role in advancing Uganda's agenda for sustainable mineral development. His work focuses on strengthening partnerships between government and the private sector, accelerating investment in critical minerals, and supporting the development of downstream processing and value addition industries. As Chief Executive Officer, he is overseeing UNMC's role in implementing Uganda's new mining framework, building strategic joint ventures, attracting investment into priority mineral projects, and ensuring that Uganda's mineral wealth contributes to long-term industrialisation and economic transformation. Dr. Banaga-Baingi is a strong advocate for responsible resource development, local value addition and regional supply chain integration. His leadership supports Uganda's Tenfold Growth Strategy, with particular emphasis on mineral beneficiation, industrial processing, export competitiveness and positioning the country as a strategic supplier of critical minerals within regional and global markets. At the 16th UK–Africa Investment Summit 2026, Dr. Banaga-Baingi will contribute to discussions on critical minerals, mineral beneficiation, investment partnerships and the role of national mining companies in driving Africa's industrial future.
