Elizabeth Nyeko – CEO & Founder, Modularity Grid
Elizabeth Nyeko is the founder and chief executive of Modularity Grid, a London-based cleantech company using AI and cloud computing to make renewable-powered mini-grids more efficient and affordable. Her platform enables operators of off-grid solar, biomass, and other systems to monitor electricity consumption in real time, reduce waste, and redirect surplus power to critical “anchor loads” such as rice mills or community facilities.
A native of northern Uganda, Elizabeth co-founded Mandulis Energy while pursuing her doctorate at Oxford, where she managed a rural biomass mini-grid—an experience that inspired Modularity Grid’s mission. Under her leadership, the company has:
Secured a £1.5M Innovate UK grant to pilot its software on live mini-grids.
Earned recognition from Google’s Black Founders Fund, expanding into agricultural and telecom sectors.
Demonstrated 30–40% electricity cost savings for rural farms and micro-grids.
Named to MIT Technology Review’s “Innovators Under 35” list in 2018, Elizabeth combines deep technical expertise with lived experience to deliver scalable, sustainable energy solutions for Africa and beyond.
