Mrs. Margaret Athieno Mwebesa
Mrs. Margaret Athieno Mwebesa Country Platform Coordinator for Climate Action, Uganda Ministry of Water and Environment
Mrs. Margaret Athieno Mwebesa is the Country Platform Coordinator for Climate Action, Uganda, under the Ministry of Water and Environment, a role she assumed in June 2026.
She provides day-to-day operational leadership for the Uganda Country Platform for Climate Action, a Government-led coordination mechanism jointly steered by the Ministry of Water and Environment, the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, and the National Planning Authority. The platform is designed to accelerate climate investments and align Uganda’s climate and development priorities.
Mrs. Mwebesa previously served as Commissioner for the Climate Change Department and as Uganda’s UNFCCC National Focal Point in the Ministry of Water and Environment until September 2025.
Her work includes coordinating high-level engagements, stakeholder consultations and field missions involving Government ministries, departments and agencies, development partners, the private sector and local governments. Her portfolio focuses on climate finance mobilisation, bankable climate action, climate investment coordination and the transition of climate project assets into Uganda’s wider climate investment agenda.
At the 16th UK–Africa Investment Summit 2026, Mrs. Mwebesa will contribute to the climate and investment dialogue on Climate Finance, Carbon Markets and Bankable Climate Action: Mobilising Capital for Uganda’s Green Growth Agenda.
Her participation is highly relevant to UKAIS 2026’s focus on capital deployment, project bankability and production-led growth. She will bring a practical Government perspective on how Uganda can mobilise climate finance, structure investable green projects, engage development partners and private capital, and align climate action with national development priorities.
Her contribution aligns with the Summit theme, Trade Corridors and Industrial Platforms: From Access to Production, and strengthens Uganda’s role as Strategic Growth Partner by connecting climate action with investment execution, green industrialisation and long-term economic resilience.
