Dear friends and partners,

What happens when governments, investors, financiers and project sponsors gather with one objective: to move African investment from access to production?

The 16th UK–Africa Investment Summit answered that question in London on Friday 11 September 2026, at The Royal Horseguards Hotel & One Whitehall Place. Uganda took part as Strategic Growth Partner. Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, Prime Minister of Uganda, was Chief Guest.

Principal addresses and three working sessions covered critical minerals, technology and finance, and infrastructure and industrial corridors. One test ran through every session: is the project ready for capital?

The official Post-Summit Report records what was said, what was agreed and what must now move. Read the full report, or start with the four-page summary.

“Access is only the beginning. The true measure of this Summit is whether relationships become partnerships, projects secure finance and capital is converted into production.”

Highlights

What happened at UKAIS 2026

The programme ran under one theme: Trade Corridors and Industrial Platforms: From Access to Production. It opened with the Summit objectives, then addresses on the UK–Africa partnership, leadership, trust and artificial intelligence, and the Chief Guest address. Three sessions followed on critical minerals, technology and finance, and infrastructure, alongside the Jordan–Africa address, a country focus on Uganda and remarks on security and investor confidence. It closed with Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga’s case for a UK–East African Community trade framework.

The UK–Africa–India commercial corridor also advanced on the day.

The three sessions

Session 01
Critical Minerals and Value Addition
From geological potential to bankability

Session 02
Technology and Finance
From digital access to productive capacity

Session 03
Infrastructure and Industrial Corridors
Financing the energy, transport and delivery systems that make production competitive

Three things to remember

1
Capital is available for prepared projects
UK Export Finance alone reports approximately £1 billion of remaining capacity for qualifying Ugandan projects.

2
Uganda is a production base, not only a market
Serviced industrial land, a ten-year tax holiday for qualifying processors and exporters, and industrial power at approximately US$0.05 per kWh.

3
UKAIS will report what moved
Nine actions are tracked at 30, 60 and 90 days. A 12-Month Delivery Scorecard will follow at UKAIS 2027.

Five findings from the sessions and addresses

1
Value addition, not extraction, is the investment case
From coffee to graphite, speakers called for greater processing and manufacturing closer to the source, retaining more value and creating jobs locally.
2
Capital is available, but only for prepared projects
UK Export Finance reported approximately £1 billion in remaining financing capacity for Uganda.
3
Every session applied the same bankability test
Clear ownership, credible feasibility studies, viable repayment arrangements, appropriate risk allocation and a defined route to financial close.
4
Delay is now a risk in its own right
Reforms cut some land transactions from about 180 days to as few as 15, and issue work permits in about seven days.
5
Corridors turn single projects into investable platforms
Planning infrastructure around farms, mines and factories can strengthen demand and revenue prospects.

Each finding is drawn from what speakers said on the day. The full set is in the report, together with the One Bankability Standard that every session applied.

Signed on the day

Signed before the first panel began

Mandulis Energy, its productive-use partner REPARLE Limited and Oxford College of Education Group signed a memorandum at the Summit to launch Uganda Digital Futures. The initial pilot supports 100 scholars: teachers, health workers and volunteers.

Words became deeds on 30 September, when the Rotary Club of Kampala West presented the first ten scholarships in Kampala. Ninety further places are to follow.
